Iraq Bombing
On July 3, 2016 a coordinated bomb attacks were carried out
in Baghdad, resulting in a mass civilian casualties. A suicide truck bomb hit a
shopping area in Karrada as the streets were busy with late night shoppers
because of Ramadan. The Iraqi Ministry of Defense revealed that at least 167
had been killed and over 180 injured, with those numbers expected to rise. Reports
from the scene indicated that many of those who are killed are children. After
initial reports, the death toll continued to rise as further corpses were
recovered from the rubble and the injured victims died of their injuries. It is
the deadliest attack in Iraq thus far in
2016.
Last July 6, the Health Ministry announced that the death
toll reached 250. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or ISIL, also known
as ISIS claimed responsibility for the devastating blast, which went off early
on a Sunday at Karrada. What is happening to our world? So many deaths and
bloodsheds, but for what? For our future generations to see rubbles and
destroyed buildings instead of trees and green pastures? To grow up in a place
full of hate, death, fear, and anger? Is war the only solution to every man’s
problem?
Let us pray for the people at Iraq who have lost so may
innocent lives, those who have lost a mother, a child, a father, or a friend, and hope that the people
responsible for this bombing may be put to justice and get what they deserved.
