A father’s Sacrifice
A Biography of Katrina Beloya
There is girl whose name is Katrina,
born from the love of her mother, whose a former Midwife named Rosemarie, and
her father, a seaman named Rodrigo. She was born in Caloocan and grew up living
in a “Squaters area”. She did not mind where she lived back then, all she remembers
are the times she played with her friends under the rain. She did not
understand back then, the reason why their house would have water inside when
it rains, she did not mind how small her house was. She rarely remembers if she
had ever bonded with her mother when she was a child, she does not remember her
mother in her childhood memories, only her aunt who keeps her company while her
mother goes to work. But most of all, she did not even have memories or
pictures of her father being there for her when she was a child.
As times goes by, she turned 3 years
old when they moved in an apartment, the place was bigger compared to their old
home, but still, her father was absent from her childhood. The only father
figure she had known is from her uncle, her mother’s older brother. He taught
her how to ride a bike and he always buy her food and gifts, she loves him the most, she
rarely miss the absence of her father. Many of you may wonder if she ever hated
her father, if she rebelled from her parents, on the contrary, she loves and
respect her parents. At a young age, her mother explained to her thoroughly and
carefully why her father was not with them, that her father must endure missing
his family to provide for them. Without her father’s sacrifices they would
never have a nice house, and that she and her sibling could never afford to
attend private schools. So her mother would always tell them, not to hate their
father, but to understand that being far away from them is a sacrifice he must
make to show how much he truly loves his family.
